About the molecule
Semax is the heptapeptide Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro — the ACTH(4-7) fragment extended with the C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide. It is described in the literature as an analogue of ACTH(4-10) that is devoid of ACTH hormonal activity. Acetate and trifluoroacetate forms exist and alter the mass, so the identity of a given lot is fixed by its certificate rather than by the free-base formula above.
Research context
Semax is studied as a melanocortin-derived regulatory peptide. Rodent models report specific basal-forebrain binding sites and modulation of the BDNF/TrkB system. This is neutral reference information about what has been examined in the literature; it is not a statement of effect in humans.
Appearance and handling
Supplied as a lyophilized white powder; stored dry and cool per label. Reconstitution and handling are determined by the researcher.
How it is documented
Where analysis is published for a released batch, its certificate records the available identity and purity results. Look up the lot number on your vial to retrieve any published record.
